A Little Lady Business

My FLO

I have become a little obsessed with podcasts lately. One of my favorites is Natural MD Radio with Dr. Aviva Rom. She was discussing last week menstrual cycles and she had on guest Alisa Vitti. As a student at Johns Hopkins, Alisa Vitti was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, or PCOS. When her physicians gave her band-aid solutions to manage it, she discovered that food and functional nutrition addressed the root of the issue. After healing herself naturally of cystic acne, excess weight, and infertility, and normalizing her period, Alisa made it her mission to help other women to do the same. She created firstly, the Flo living website, then.. book The Woman Code and lastly, her fabulous app MyFLO. I have been using the app for about a week but am already in love with it and here's why:

* It only cost $2.00

* Not only can you track your cycle but it gives you options to add symptoms.

* Not only can you add symptoms BUT then it gives you nutritional, exercise, and other advice to help you with those symptoms.

* It explains what phase of the cycle you are in and how to nourish yourself in that stage of the cycle, body, mind, and soul.

Most period tracking apps only let you track your cycle. Sometimes, you can also list symptoms but I have yet to see one that then gives you solutions to your symptoms. Like, I had no idea that eating starchy potatoes and carbs right before your period can help get excess estrogen out of your body. Which, makes for a better cycle. Amazing right? I am kind of a period geek. I love my moontime and this app just makes it that much better. The stigma that menstruation has in general is not portrayed as the powerful feminine tool that it is.

Elvie

If your like me and you've had a few kids, you probably pee every once in a while when you laugh, sneeze hard, or have a big cough. The pelvic floor weakens as you get older anyways and throw a few births in there and you're wearing Depends when you have a cold! Not anymore...enter the Elvie Pelvic Trainer. It's basically a kegal trainer that is attached to an app so you can do specific exercises to strengthen your pelvic floor. I firmly believe that as part of every woman's postpartum care, they should have to go and see a pelvic floor therapist. It's a weird concept for some who may not be super comfortable with their lady parts but I love my pelvic floor therapist and she was the one who recommended Elvie to me in the first place. Elvie is discreet, nicely designed, easy to use, and it works! This weekend they have a code for 20% off. Just enter TRAINER20.

In general, we need to wake up women! Bust through the stigmas and let's teach our daughters how powerful their feminine organs are. How special their menstrual cycles are and what we can learn from the insights that come with being in touch with

them.
